Turretin Fan on the Intercession of Mary

February 5, 2012

Is there a difference between asking someone to pray for you and praying for Mary to intercede for you?

Here is a post by Turretin Fan that discusses the distinction.

How can anyone have Mary or departed Saint pray for them? They can do No intersession for you. God has forbidden this Necromancy. We are not to engage in talking to the dead and our only mediator is Christ Jesus, alone. The RCC tries to make Mary, a redemptrix and Queen of Heaven, but she is simply the blessed mother of Jesus by the Holy Spirit

The Bible is clear that there is only One mediator between God and humanity and it is Jesus Christ. There is no “Queen of Heaven” as God is the only One who rules Heaven and earth. He does not share His glory with another and certainly not a mere mortal, which Mary clearly was and is. Yes, she was highly favoured and raised Jesus in the ways of the Jewish Laws, but other than that she had nothing remarkable or supernatural about her. To assume that she is anything more or add to her role as the mother of Jesus is to make her into an idol and you then immediately take glory that should be given solely to God to her.

Sean, the Bible is clear to me. I was a RC, without going to Catholic school, so I lacked religion taught k-12. In the last 4 years I found out what Imacculate Conception and Assumption really were! Mary was born immaculately/ Her mother was sterile ( the quoran even emphasizes her sterile birth), this is what makes her sinless ! Pope Pious IX with his newly acquired Infallibility made it a Dogma in the RCC. In the 1950’s the Pope proclaimed she was assumed into heaven. She is not deity….why would they do this? You do not want to know what I think! But I think it is a Celibacy issue, with the Priesthood! Christ is our ONLY mediator, she cannot ask her son to help us!

Hi Catherine, thank you for the reply. I was also a Roman Catholic and when while I was in high school, toyed with the idea of becoming a priest. However, thank the Lord, He saved and brought me out of this system. Mary was a human being therefore she was just like you and I. She found no more favour with God than say Esther!

To elevate her to “diety” status is nothing more or less than idolatry. She cannot dispense graces, cannot pray on your behalf ect, ect, ect. She needed as Saviour, just like everyone else. The only One who is sinless is Jesus Christ. When Catholics say “The Immaculate Conception” they really mean, Mary was concieved without sin (according to Wikipedia) but we all kknow that this contradicts what the Bible says.

In my opinion, the RCC is trying to water down the loving aspect of Father God, by portraying Him as alwasy angry with His creations, always waiting for an oppertunity to “smite” us. So, by putting Mary at His “side” His anger is “placated” because afterall “who can say no to their mother.”

Yet, the Bible makes it very plain that” while we were yet sinners Christ died for us” and “it is His love for us that draws us to repentance” – certianly not some imaginary “person” up in the sky some where. (Rom. 5:8 & Rom. 2:8).

It is very sad to see some many sincere Catholics being so sincerely deceived.

Thank the Lord you did not proceed to the priesthood! My husband and daughter went to Jesuit College, but I went to a secular University! I was RC, but not that strong, not like my family K- post graduate Catholic schools!
Well first of all in Romans 3:23-We have all sinned and come short of the glory of God!…this includes Mary of Bethlehem!!!
The Bible tells us Jesus is the door…the RCC says Mary is our “GATE” to heaven.
This is a blasthemy, there cannot be any excuse for this bold face lie, except deception.
Many religions have “goddess worship”and accept the Catholic Mary. Where do you think this is leading? I will tell you far away from Jesus!!!

Correction: Mary was probably born in Nazereth or around Galilee.

Here is something to think about:
Pope JPII Consecrated the “Whole World ” to Mary in Oct 8 2000.
Mother Theresa said “No Mary No Jesus”!

These are two statements that should make Catholics take another look at this counterfeit belief in Mary as an idol that IS worshiped……2Timothy 2:5 Jesus is our ONLY mediator!

Hi Catherine, yes, any form of idolatry will lead one far from Jesus. But this form of idolatry is even more deceptive because it comes in the form of religion. The female goddess image can be seen throughout many pagan religions (one need only to conduct a Google search). In the RCC Satan has cleverly devised a plan to decieve sincere people by slowly adding things to the Gospel. If one asks the average RC anything about their beleifs they can answer without hesitation. But when prseed to “back it up” with scripture, they fail miserably. Often their response is, “Well thats is what The Church / my priest says, so I beleive it.” Satan has removed the infallable Word of God and replaced it with the teachings and doctrines of devils. It is very sad.

I come from a long line of devout Catholics. When I got saved, I tried to minister the Gospel to them but they were so decieved by the Church They beleived that they were going to purgatory (heaven if they were really good Catholics) because they simply were christened Catholic at birth. No amount of debate could have swayed them – even after showing them what Gods Word said as opposed to what they beleived, they still clung to their traditions, dogmas and superstitions.

I still minister to those who are still alive – and they still light thier candles, pray to saints, go to confession and Mass. I know in my heart of hearts that I am doing what God has asked me to do.

Sean, well said. Idolatry is the central wrong the RCC, with the help of Satan impudes upon over 1 billion people, and very “few” see the truth of the deception!
May I ask your age? I am 55, my first communion was in the 1st grade, about the time of Vatican II. There was enormous confusion by all at the changes. The church went from God centered to Man centered….a Humanistic approach! At this time bright, adult minds should have inquired “what was going on?” I would have started questioning what was this church trying to do with God’s people!
Now, the only way to be discerning is to READ the NT…and not have scripture read randomly at mass. These people think with mysticism combined with ceremony and ritual, they are truly worshipping God….I think not, probably L……..
God is to be worshipped in Truth and Spirit not a Sacraficial Offering!!!

Sean, I was thinking about what you said, “read scripture to them”to defend your Biblical position. Nobody will listen to me…I am surrounded by RC defender’s of “The One True Faith”….some devout and some stupidly defensive/it’s my way or hit the highway!!
Right now, my husband is attending a St. Vincent De Paul meeting…..I am not sure of what is his motivations, charity or Indugences!
He will not talk anything spiritual with before or after my rebirth in Christ! He does not get it…he is a wonderful man and the chiurch he belongs to Love Him! he has been the President of the Parish Council and they demand he stays on to consult them for a decade!
I told him he is never to join Opus Dei.or any of the Knights,or anything too involved with Mother Church agenda’s or societies!
      In Christ

I should not have said Random scriptures. That made it sound like it was scriptures chosen by the individual RCC.Worldwide, the same scriptures are read in their missal that is valid for 2-3 years(not sure of the time!) BTW, the Big White Book carried in the procession is NOT the Bible…it is called the Lectionary….are we NOT supposed to Add to his Word?

When I was in Bible School here in Durban, South Africa, we were given as part of the curiculam Hislops book, “The Two Babylons.” Which is where I came to know about the true origins of the RCC. It all made sense to me then. But when I have a spare moment I shall definately try watch it.

I also think (and I may be wrong with this) that often more than most times, people involved in cults often don’t understand what you are trying to do when you present all of the information to them because their deception is so deep and great.

I have found this particulary true when I have shared with Jehovahs Witnesses, Mormons and Muslims and RCC’s are no differant.

It is just like that scripture says:”Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron.” (1 Timothy 4:1,2).

Sadly this decption is not only found in these religions but also so many Christian churches who are now subscribing to various New Age and extra-biblical revelation. A case in point in the movement called the New Apostolic Reformation led by C Peter Wagner. If you want to know more just Google the movements name or his and you’ll see straight away what these people beleive – from restoring OT Law to Head Apostles and Prophets who claim to have the same authority the Old and New Testaments types used to have.

It is truely a scary thing to see happening.

Sean, The expriest : Richard Bennett/ Berean Beacon has some wonderful videos on the new Emerging Church. He also has a video on Mysticism that shows how people want to communicate with God and bypass Christ…interesting like Voodu in Haiti (all derived from Catholicism)–South Americans are big into this type of worship…..Superstition based, and not Biblically based! Every night after 10PM…for the last 2 years I have watched videos on the RCC and many debates and sometimes over again!

Ah yes – there is unity in the RCC when it comes to what gets done in the Mass. Yet, I think that in more ways than one, this man made organization prevents any move of the Spirit in thier hearts. Plus this unity is very reminiscent of The Tower of Babel, mentioned in Genesis 11 … and we all know what happened there. Also if the interpretation of Revelation 17 is in fact a symbol for the RCC then she is once again bringing in her demonic organization under the influence and leadership of the Anti-Christ, the Beast and the False Prophet. According to the book “The Two Babbylons” the RCC originated at the Tower of Babel through Nirmod who married his mother Semiramis. She became pregnant and claimed that this son was god in the flesh. This is why one can see “Mary” hold a baby “Jesus.”

The best YouTube you will ever see is Professor Walter Veigh, a South African German, who is excatholic. The title is : The Islamic Connection. Watch this film—about 2 hours. Do not be hesitant because of his SDA affiliation…there is no mention of it.
He shows and explains things like a college professor, which he was, that will pull everything you have heard TOGETHER!
All of what you said, on your last comment is RELEVANT to this Most Amazing Film!
I cannot stress enough… To WATCH this YouTube!
      Write back….Mary is discussed much!

Over 35 years ago, shortly after I had become a Christian (after being raised Roman Catholic including 12 years of Catholic school), my mother angrily challenged me one day on my new, biblical understanding of Mary that, of course, differed greatly from Mom’s RC view of Jesus’ mother. I believe the Holy Spirit helped me respond to her the following way. I explained to Mom that I felt I had a good enough relationship with my older brother so that if I had to ask him something I wouldn’t need to go through her (Mom) to get to him. I told her this was like my new relationship with Jesus Christ. I could go directly to Him with my requests, not needing to ask his mother, Mary, to intercede for me. It worked with Mom. Although she, many years later, is still Roman Catholic and I am still a born again believer, we have an otherwise good relationship. Perhaps this anecdote might help someone else. I have written about how I came out of Roman Catholicism on my blog which might also be of some help and encouragement:
