Cursillos in Christianity
Definition: A three day course in Catholic living and renewal. Founded in Spain in 1947, it has spread worldwide, and has even been reformatted for use in non-Catholic churches.
Discussion: The course uses evangelical terminology such as “born again” and “salvation experience” apart from the truth of the finished work of Jesus for salvation. The course encourages personal reformation in the false context of the Catholic sacramental system. Jesus warns of the danger of “cleaning up your act” apart from true spiritual conversion (Mt. 12:43-45). Courses like Cursillo promote a false Christian unity based on shared experiences rather than objective truth.
